March Lively's Experience End: Rubik's Cube

My March "Lively" Experience has come to an end. While I can't solve the Rubik's Cube without my notes, I can complete 75% of it without my notes. The top row in the above picture is what I can complete from memory. This was a frustrating yet fun experience. I will continue to practice until I can solve by memory.

On another note I'm making a conscious decision to take my "Lively" experiences more seriously. I started January's with a bang but then with February's hula hoop fiasco I lost momentum. If I would have taken the time to practice every day I could've solved the cube from memory. I'm proud of what I've compolished so far but I know I can do better. On to April's experience.

My First Visit to Starbucks

don't like hot drinks, not tea, hot chocolate or coffee. With that being said there are times that I do drink tea and coffee. When I'm sick & hubby forces me to drink tea and the only time I drink coffee is with my mother.  Even then I rarely finish the tea and only drink half a cup of coffee. The strange thing is that I love the smell of coffee. In the spirit of trying new things I decided to go to Starbucks. I was so confused. Too many freakin options. Latte, Frappuccino, Espresso, Ice Tea and all the various ingredients to add. WTF?? I grew up believing the only type of coffee was Cafe Bustelo and the iconic blue NYC coffee cup. After speaking with the "barista" I decided on a Vanilla Bean Frappuccino that was creme based because he said it tasted like a milkshake and I love milkshakes. It was delcious. However my hubby said I cheated, I should have tried something different. Nah. He had a cold carameal macchiatto. It was gross. I was not impressed and have no desire to return. It's just not my thing. At least I can cross it off my list of places to visit.

Rubik's Cube Update

Since solving the Rubik's Cube I have not practiced much. I get distracted easily. My other problem is memorizing the left and right moves. Since childhood I have not been able to remember which way is left or right. I have tried every trick out there and I still have to look at my hands to determine left or right. I have the same problem telling time and distinguishing a nickel from a dime. It's like my mind refuses to learn these three things. Anyway I have 8 days left to the end of the month, I plan to buckle down and practice everyday, until I can solve the cube without notes or videos.

Solved It, Bitches!!

After two days of watching youtube videos and taking notes I'm proud to announce that I solved the Rubik's Cube. Yay!! There were some steps that we're confusing and I was getting frustrated. But I could see the finish line and refused to give up. Now while I still need youtube videos to solve it, I'm going to continue to practice and hopefully by end of month I can solve by memory. Now off I go to mess up my hard work.

Rubik's Cube, Here, There, Everywhere,

This was an uneventful week. I was not able to practice as much as I wanted. Watching Tv this week I felt as if the Rubik's Cube was haunting me. A commercial for NBC's new show Believe and there was the Cube. Grown Ups 2 had a Cube cake. The intro for Brain Games on Nat Geo has a series of Cubes. Then a gift in the hilarious Bridesmaids and there again was the Cube. Coincidence or not? We'll never know. Things are now back to normal, I can return to solving the Rubik's Cube. Off I go to watch Youtube.

March Lively Experience; Rubik's Cube

Rubik's Cube. WOWZER. This brings back memories. Another childhood game I failed to learn. I used to peel off the stickers and switch them to complete one side. That never worked. It was a mess. I'm going to watch some youtube videos to learn. A tad bit scared but I'm going to get it done. Let's go.

Science Museum of Virginia

In effort to stop being a creature of habit I stopped hibernating and visited Science Museum of Virginia. I love what many people would label as geeky or nerdy. I enjoy science, history, dinosaur, art gallery, sci-fi and reading. So a visit to the museum was long overdue. They closed early due to a private event. Therefore I was not able to see all the exhibits. Will be returning next month to finish tour and check out their new planetarium. However the 3 hours I spent there were fun and worth my $11. Below are some of my highlights.
Free video games are always fun. Also designed my own dinosaur. Just realized I colored mine purple, like Barney.
This was by far my favorite exhibit. It's called a "Science on a Sphere". They hold 30 minute lectures. I was the only one at the lecture, which allowed us to chit chat with no interruptions. There is a movie projector shaped into a sphere and it projects real time images of earth. Really fucking cool. The top right corner and the bottom left corner are real images of Earth and The Milky Way. Images below right corner and below left corner are images of the moon and the sun. Don't remember what the other images represent, it's something like weather and temperatures. Was having too much fun to take notes. This lecture alone is worth the visit.
Got to use some microscopes to view butterflies. Felt like Bernadette from Big Bang Theory. My weight if I were on Mars. Touched a real meteorite.
A real railroad track sign with my favorite number. My favorite souvenir is turning a penny into a small piece of artwork. I've collected these from all over the U.S. and this trip was no different. How clever is the Dr. Evil poster to illustrate the use of lasers.

I've complied a list of places to visit to keep this momentum going. My resolutions are growing slowly but surely. :)
