Comics Pyramid Volcano

Comics Pyramid Volcano should be the name of a band.  However it's the name of something much cooler, my 4th and final science experiment. While researching on how to build a volcano, I found that most required painting and creating a mold. I was not interested in doing either. I wanted to keep the mess to a minimal. I wanted to cover the bottle with Comic Strips but had no idea it would be shaped like a pyramid. I just kept laying down the strips of comics over the tape and the pyramid shape was born. An eye candy delight. It looked plain just laying on cardboard, so I decided to lay down a bed of leaves. I was thrilled with the results. Now that the volcano and bed of leaves were completed it was time to pour in the ingredients. I anxiously waited for the eruption and then all of sudden, BOOM.  So freaking exciting. The eruption lasted for about 4-5 minutes. I did it twice. It was worth all the time and effort I put into this experiment. I decided to leave the volcano in my backyard to perform some more eruptions and see what the mother nature does to it. I must say I enjoyed the Mentos & Diet Coke along with the Volcano experiment the most. No coincidence they both involved eruptions. Come back to see July's Challenge.

Bouncy Ball Fail

For my 3rd science experiment, I was going to make a bouncy ball. The ingredients needed were Borax, corn starch, glue and water. I figured since not many ingredients were needed and the instructions were relatively easy, this was going to be a breeze. Hell nah. After four attempts, I classified this experiment a big ole fail. I think for my 1st attempt and 2nd attempt I used too much water, because the balls felt wet instead of sticky. The 3rd attempt, I used less water.  Which left the clump very dry. I was unable to mold into a ball as it kept crumbling. After failing three times I decided to try a different recipe. That was my fourth and final try. This time it didn't even make it out of the bowl. It was way to sticky and didn't mold. After sitting out, they turn into puddy. I was not interested enough to try for a 5th time. It makes a mess and leaves my hands dirty. Not a fan of either. So I will take the lose on this one and move one.

Ivory Soap in Microwave

My second challenge was the Ivory soap in the microwave. It was a challenge that took less than two minutes. Definitely not as exciting as the Mentos and Diet Pepsi experiment. However I'm glad that I did it as I was very curious on how the soap would feel. My husband described it perfectly, it felt like dried cotton candy. Well not much more to report. Enjoy my hijinks.

Mentos and Diet Pepsi

I didn't expect the eruption to happen so quickly, that I punked out on putting all the Mentos into the soda. I tried to go back to put the remaining Mentos but the eruption had already fizzled. My hubby was able to put all his Mentos and his eruption was higher than mine.  It's a lot of hype for such little satisfaction. The eruption ends so quickly. I'm going to see if I can do it again but with more flair. I'm going to wait until next week, when my niece arrives for a visit. Enjoy my hijinks.

June's Challenge; Science Experitments

Science was one of my favorite subjects. Unfortunately the public schools I attended in the Bronx did not perform many science experiments. I think they were scared of us. Well now I'm an adult with childlike tendencies and ready to get my science on. For the month of June I will perform one science experiment per week. I've had another uneventful week, so I'm starting late. On a side note, I don't know what the hell has been going on lately but my luck has been off. While yes I'm grateful for my life, I've been dealt some heavy hands every few weeks for the past several years. This past year being the worst. Any hoot, I'm going to keep on, keeping on. I plan on executing the following 4 experiments:

1.  Mentos & Diet Coke.
2.  Make Bouncy Ball
3.  Soap in Microwave
4.  Volcano

I plan a fun day of shopping at two of my favorite stores Michael's & Hobby Lobby. Once I have the goodies I need, my plan is to film two experiments by the end of this weekend. Cheers to curiosity and goodnight.
